Scoliosis is more than a matter of appearance. During adolescence, spinal curvature can progress quickly, making early detection and regular assessment important.
Dr Chan Ying-kei, Orthopaedic Specialist and Chair of HKMSHF, and Ms Bianca Pang, a scoliosis patient and survivor discuss common misconceptions, treatment options and lived experience.
Dr Chan explains that heavy schoolbags, poor posture and soft mattresses do not cause scoliosis. Treatment depends on the individual, from monitoring and non-surgical approaches to surgery for more severe curves.
Bianca also shares her journey, highlighting the importance of reliable information and informed choices.
